LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech heads on the road for the first time Saturday when the Red Raiders travel to face Arizona State inside Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. Kickoff is slated for 9 p.m. CT with Joe Davis (play-by-play), Brady Quinn (analyst) and Jenny Taft (sideline) calling the action on FOX Sports 1.
The game can also be heard nationally on the Texas Tech Sports Network with Brian Jensen calling the action alongside analyst John Harris, sideline reporter Chris Level and engineer Steve Pitts. The radio broadcast can be heard nationally on XM (Channel 199) and Sirius Radio (Channel 136) as well as the TuneIn app.
- Texas Tech fans will have to stay up late to watch Saturday's contest as the game will not kick off until 7 p.m. local time which means a 9 p.m. start time for fans in Lubbock. This is the fourth time in school history where the Red Raiders have started a game at 9 p.m. CT or later - vs. Oklahoma State (1988 in Japan), vs. Texas A&M (2003), vs. Arizona State (2013 Holiday Bowl) and vs. UTEP (2014).
- Saturday will mark the third all-time meeting between Texas Tech and Arizona State. The two schools have split the previous meetings with Arizona State defeating Tech, 31-13, to open the 1999 season before the Red Raiders responded with a 37-23 victory in the 2013 Holiday Bowl.
- This is the first time the Red Raiders have faced a Pac-12 opponent during the regular season since Texas Tech's first meeting with Arizona State in 1999. Tech has met both Arizona State and California in the Holiday Bowl in recent years, picking up victories in both games.
- Texas Tech racked up 758 yards of total offense in its 69-17 rout of Stephen F. Austin, which ranked second nationally through the first week of the season. It also marked the fourth-highest total in single-season school history.
- In just 39 games as head coach, Kliff Kingsbury has guided the Red Raider offense to at least 500 yards of total offense 23 times during his tenure. During that span, Kingsbury has also led Texas Tech to 700 yards of total offense four times, all of which rank among the top-10 totals in program history.
- Despite removing most of its starting offense early in the third quarter, Texas Tech poured in 69 points against the Lumberjacks, marking the 17th-consecutive game where the Red Raiders have scored at least 25 points, the longest active streak in the country. Texas Tech's 69 points marked the fourth-highest total during the opening weekend of college football.
- Not lost in Texas Tech's opening-game success was the play of its defense. David Gibbs' unit surrendered just 370 yards and 17 points to the Lumberjacks, the majority of which came after halftime. The Red Raiders forced three turnovers in the victory, giving Texas Tech a total of 28 takeaways in 14 games under Gibbs. Stephen F. Austin scored just three points in the opening half, marking the third time under Gibbs where Tech has surrendered three or fewer points in a half.
