Kliff Kingsbury unveiled the newly-renovated locker room following a team meeting Monday night
LUBBOCK, Texas – After a week-long break between summer school sessions, Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury welcomed his team back to campus Monday night by unveiling the newly-renovated locker room inside the Football Training Facility.
Â
The $1.6 million project completely razed the previous locker room, allowing Tech to significantly upgrade its amenities with 120 steel lockers to go along with a new players' lounge, state-of-the-art lighting system and 60-inch HD televisions scattered throughout the facility. Â
Â
The locker room is also highlighted by a new entrance, featuring various Red Raider helmets as well as a lighted Double T hanging from the roof of the ceiling. In addition to the locker room, the adjacent weight room also received a face lift with a new workout mat and updated graphics along the exterior walls.
Â
"We are fortunate that our administration and donors actively invest in our student-athletes, who spend countless hours in the FTF during the year," Kingsbury said. "These renovations will not only greatly impact their lives but also the future of our program as we continue to recruit future student-athletes to this great university."
The locker room was designed and renovated by Gensler, a global design and architecture firm based out of San Francisco, Calif.
"Our goal was to design a space that would inspire the Texas Tech student athlete," Gensler Principal and Design Director Byron Chambers said. "The built space not only inspires, but reflects the grit and speed that Texas Tech football is recognized for."Â
Â
The project was funded through The Campaign for Fearless Champions, which continues to make its mark on Texas Tech Athletics through philanthropic giving. To date, Tech has secured funding for 22 of 25 facilities project while doubling the department's scholarship and program endowments. The list of facility projects includes the Sports Performance Center, which is slated to open prior to the 2017 season.
Â
The campaign has also established an endowment to secure the future of the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy, a first-in-the-nation program designed to prepare student-athletes for success after graduation.
Â
The Red Raiders resume summer workouts Tuesday in preparation for the start of the 2017 season which is less than seven weeks away. Tech opens its fifth season under Kingsbury on Sept. 2 by hosting Eastern Washington inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
Â
Season tickets are still on sale for all six home games of the 2017 which features the likes of Arizona State, Iowa State, TCU, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the online portal at TexasTech.com or by contacting the Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH.
