Tech men’s team earns highest outdoor season ranking in school history
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Men's Track & Field team moved up four spots to No. 2 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) outdoor national rankings.
This is the highest outdoor season ranking in program history. The Red Raiders reached as high as No. 3 last season during week five and six.
"It's still pretty early in the season, but I am excited for this team and the potential we have," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "I look forward to seeing us progress throughout the rest of the outdoor season."
The Red Raiders sprinted their way up the leaderboard after a successful weekend at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Junior Vincent Crisp broke the meet and venue records with his personal best time of 1:46.31 in the 800m run. His mark ranks first in the country.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Darien Tennon, Divine Oduduru, Andrew Hudson and Charles Brown broke a 32-year old school record with a winning time of 39.01. The previous record of 39.03 was set at the 1986 national championships.
Oduduru took second in the men's premiere 200m dash with his season opening mark of 20.54.
In the 4x400m relay, the Red Raiders ran a season-best time of 3:06.41 to take second in the meet.
Odaine Lewis leaped into the rankings with his 15.75m (51-8.25) mark in the men's triple jump. The junior took second at the Sun Angel Classic.
