Texas Tech Sports Medicine
The Texas Tech University Sports Medicine Department is committed to the mission of educating, serving, and growing fearless champions by delivering the highest quality healthcare to all of its student-athletes.
Texas Tech Sports Medicine provides prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and coordinated care for Red Raider student-athletes.
Mission Statement
Texas Tech Sports Medicine supports student-athlete health through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and collaborative care. The department’s work is grounded in student wellbeing, communication, and evidence-based practices that help Red Raiders return to participation as safely and efficiently as possible.
Guiding Principles of Sports Medicine
- Always do the right thing for students and their wellbeing.
- Prioritize the prevention of athletic injuries.
- Promote mental health wellness for student-athletes through education, prevention, and counseling.
- Work within guidelines established by team physicians and the guiding principles of the NATA and NCAA.
- Lead with communication among all stakeholders, including athletes, providers, parents, coaches, and administrators.
- Protect and return injured student-athletes to participation as safely and quickly as possible.
- Maintain and deliver current, scientifically sound care to every student-athlete.
Education & Clinical Support
In addition to caring for student-athletes, the licensed and certified athletic training staff serves as clinical instructors, supervisors, and mentors for athletic training students pursuing both state licensure and national certification in athletic training.
