LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech won the Mean Green Classic tournament with a perfect 3-0 record after defeating UT-Arlington 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17) and Jackson State 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-15).

After losing the first set in the first match against UT-Arlington, the Red Raiders took three straight sets to take the match 3-1. Four Red Raiders had double-digit kills as Amanda Dowdy and Hayley Ball both led the way with 12 kills a piece. Tournament MVP Brandi Hood and Michelle Flores were right behind with 10 kills each. Caroline Witte, named all-tournament, finished the game with a .952 assist percentage as she had 39 assists. Witte also finished with a .571 attack percentage.

Tech came back a few hours later and beat Jackson State 3-1 behind a pair of Red Raiders who had double-digit kills. Dowdy led the team with 12 kills and had a .556 attack percentage and had three solo blocks. Caroline Courtney was the other Red Raider with double-digit kills as she finished with 10. Witte finished the match with 25 assists and Karlyn Meyers had 18 assists as well.

"It was nice to get this first weekend under our belt," head coach Nancy Todd said after the tournament. "It really helped us figure out what we need to fine tune going into next weekend

 

 

Tech will be in competition next weekend at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. on Sept., 5th and 6th.
