Tech Athletes Recognized by Big 12

DALLAS, Texas - A total of 2,063 student-athletes has been named to the Big 12 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring 1998 semester which is an increase of almost 100 from last semester's honor rolls the league announced Monday.
The Commissioner's Honor Roll has had a steady increase in all four semesters of the league's existence. The inaugural honor roll consisted of 1,817 in the fall of 1996. The 1997 Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll barely outdistanced its previous semester's mark with 1,819 total names. There was an increase of almost 100 during the fall of 1997 with 1,916 honorees only to be surpassed by the spring 1998 mark of 2,063. The 1998 spring total raises the cumulative number to more than 7,000 student-athletes recognized.
Additionally, the Big 12 had 242 student-athletes earn perfect 4.0 grade point averages during the spring term, which was an increase of 28 from the previous semester.
Acknowledging all participants, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll is an inclusive honor for all sports sponsored by the membership of the league. The Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those student-athletes who registered a 3.0 or better grade point average the previous semester.
Submitted through the Directors of Student-Athlete Support Services at each institution, those honored are not necessarily the stars on the field and court but those who participate on the team. They include the letterwinners and non-letterwinners and recognize every student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom.
