Texas Tech now leads the all-time series 25-14 against Kansas and snapped a four-game losing skid to the Jayhawks with tonight's 15-10 win. Tech's win also snapped Kansas' six-game win streak.
The Red Raiders now stand at 8-8 in Big 12 play and that is the best record for a Tech team after 16 games in league play since the 2004 season. The 2004 squad was 10-6 after 16 games.
The Red Raiders put an end to their six-game home run drought in the bottom of the first inning. Joey Kenworthy and Chris Richburg hit back-to-back home runs in the inning to get the Red Raiders back into the ballgame after an early deficit. Richburg's home run was his 10th of the year and his first since the middle game of the Texas series in late March.
Tech's 21 hits on the night marked a season high and the Red Raiders need just one hit tomorrow to match their entire total (22) from last weekend's series at Oklahoma. The last time Tech had 20-plus hits in a game was against Oklahoma State (22) on May 11, 2008.
Texas Tech has now won all three Big 12 series-opening games at Dan Law Field this season and that is a first by a Tech team since the 2002 season.
Joey Kenworthy picked up his team-leading 17th multiple-hit game of the season by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
