LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball program had four student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Big 12 selections with two first-team selections and two second team members, the Conference announced Thursday morning.
Junior right-handed pitcher Trey Masek (Energy Commerce) and sophomore second baseman Bryant Burleson (Energy Commerce) were selected to the first team while senior right-handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen (University Studies) and sophomore shortstop Tim Proudfoot (Nutrition) were named to the second team.
"We are very proud of these individuals and what they have accomplished not only on the field but obviously in the classroom this year and during their time at Tech," first-year head coach Tim Tadlock said. "These types of awards reflect the hard work and focus of these individuals and also those in our academic department who do so much to assist our student-athletes."
It marks the second straight year that Masek and McCrummen were named Academic All-Big 12 as both upperclassmen were second team recipients in 2012.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team consists of 39 first team members and 18 second team selections. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
