No. 8 Red Raiders In Second Place In Denver
October 10, 2016 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 8 Texas Tech men's golf team sits in second place through nearly two rounds of play at the Paintbrush Invitational, at the Colorado Golf Club, in Denver, Colo.
Round two of the 36-hole day was suspended due to darkness, and will resume at 9:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday, before the scheduled start of the final round.
In round one, the Red Raiders came out of the gates hot with six birdies in the first three holes and at one point, held a four-shot lead over the field on the back nine.
However, the Red Raiders would go 4-over on the final two holes, allowing No. 3 Oklahoma State to make a late charge and take the round one lead.
The Red Raiders corrected course early in round two, especially Federico Zucchetti, who went 3-under on the front nine, including an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, where Tech went 7-under as a team on the day.
At the time that round two was suspended due to darkness, Tech was even par on the back nine, with Fredrik Nilehn having four holes to go and Zucchetti still three away from completing his day. As a team, Tech (-6) is tied with New Mexico for second, trailing Oklahoma State (-7) by one for the overall lead.
Nilehn ended the day at 4-under par for the tournament, after shooting an opening-round 68, which is good enough to be tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Joining him in the top 20 are Hannes Ronneblad and Ivan Ramirez (-1), who are tied for 14th, and Zucchetti (E), who is tied for 19th.
Live scoring for the remainder of the second round and final round is available through BirdieFire, here.
