The Red Raiders fired a 3-over 291 on Friday, as players 1-4 (Hannes Ronneblad, Hurly Long, Federico Zucchetti and Henry Todd) combined to register 18 bogeys, compared to just eight birdies. However, the Red Raiders sit just six shots behind first-place Kansas (-3). On an interesting note, all six Red Raiders who played today got a birdie on the par-5, 568-yard fifth hole.
Ronneblad (73, +1) and Long (75, +3) went over par for the first time this spring. Zucchetti (74, +2) rounded out today's team scoring, and Henry Todd shot a 4-over 76.
"I thought we definitely missed some opportunities today, but we are still in great position on the leaderboard," Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "If we play the way we are capable of playing tomorrow, that is a deficit that shrinks quickly."
The bright spot for the Red Raiders was freshman Ivan Ramirez, who fired five birdies and just two bogeys, on his way to a 3-under 69, which has him in fifth place, overall. That marks the second-best round of the spring by a Red Raider, trailing only Hayden Springer, who shot a first-round 68 two weeks ago in Hawaii. Springer carded a 77 playing as an individual today.
"I thought Ivan was great today," Sands said. "He showed a lot of poise and put together a really solid round. I'm looking forward to watching him follow this one up with another tomorrow."
The Red Raiders will begin tomorrow's second round at 11:10 a.m. CT, paired with Kansas, TCU and Colorado.
