Fourteen athletes from different sports traveled to Haiti for the one-week mission trip
LUBBOCK, Texas – Last month, 14 Texas Tech student-athletes took part in a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Haiti for a one-week mission trip.
Â
Eleven soccer players, two women's basketball players and a volleyball player were part of the group that was headed by FCA women's athletic chaplain Brandi Cantrell.
Â
"I am so proud of our student athletes. Their energy, attitude and effort the whole week was beyond expectation," Cantrell said. "I think it speaks to the quality and high character of the student athletes that we have at Tech. They loved and served so well in situations and circumstances that we sometimes difficult and out of their comfort zones."
Â
The group went to Haiti with the Mission of Hope, an organization that supports villages in Haiti. They visited with the people of Haiti and children and anything else they could help with.
Â
"We painted houses for villagers during our trip. We would go into the village and the pastor would choose a person to have their house painted," volleyball student athlete Sarah Redding said. "They would pick out the color and we would paint the house for them."
Â
The student-athletes also got to enjoy the culture and people of Haiti.
Â
"This trip to Haiti has truly transformed my life in so many ways," soccer student athlete Gabbie Puente said.Â
