Cailleau Returning as a Volunteer Coach
September 03, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Two-time All-Big 12 standout Jolan Cailleau set to return to the Red Raider tennis program in a volunteer assistant coaching role.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Recent Texas Tech Men's Tennis standout Jolan Cailleau will return to the program for the 2018-19 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach.
A 2017 International Tennis Association All-American for singles play, Cailleau finished his four years at Tech as one of the most decorated and accomplished members in the history of the men's tennis program. His 94 singles victories are ranked third and program history and he remains one of only two players in Tech history to record three consecutive seasons with 25or more wins.
Cailleau's success also extended beyond the tennis court. He is one of seven players in program history to record two All-Big 12 honors in singles while also receiving three All-Big 12 Academic First Team selections.
The announcement of Cailleau's return comes at a critical time for the program, as its fall slate starts in less than two weeks. Head coach Brett Masi is eager to have a veteran presence in the locker room.
"This is a great opportunity for our players to have an All-American who played here at Tech to work with them." Masi said. "I'm also looking forward to seeing what I can learn from Jo as we get this thing rolling."
Cailleau's return to the program also marks the completion of coach Masi's staff, an area he knows is crucial to the team's success.
"Having Jo (Cailleau) back will give the program some consistency in our staff that we just haven't had in my first three years." Masi said. "Jo, Danny and I will now have two years together so it will make things so much easier when working with the players."
Cailleau, whose .676 singles winning percentage ranks eighth in program history, returns to the team less than a year after his senior season, where he anchored the No.1 singles line and became the fourth player in program history to secure ITA All-American status in singles.
"I'm very excited to return to Tech." Cailleau said. "It's the place where I developed and grew as a tennis player. My goal is to become a coach in college tennis one day and having the opportunity to learn more about coaching in one of the top programs in the nation is an honor. I'm looking forward to working with the guys and the coaching staff this season."
The Texas Tech men's tennis team kicks off their fall season on September 14 at the Harvard Chowda Fest in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
