Andrew Schoppe Awarded Prestigious Scholarship

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field thrower Andrew Schoppe (Houston, Texas / Bellaire HS) has been selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship through a program administered by the NCAA Foundation and the Freedom Forum to help college juniors wishing to pursue a career is sports journalism.
Schoppe was of eight athletes student-athletes chosen to receive the prestigious scholarship. Those selected were: Ryan Gutschenritter, Wichita State University; Shannon Heffelfinger and Darren Ivy, University of Nebraska, Lincoln; Kanda Leahey, Hawaii Pacific University; Bryan Lee, Harvard University; Matthew May, University of Kentucky; Ashley Michael, Samford University; and Andrew Schoppe, Texas Tech University.
Schoppe competed last season for the Red Raiders in the javelin. He was named to the Big 12 all-academic team and is also involved in many campus organizations.
"We are very proud of Andrew's accomplishment," Director of Track and Field Greg Sholars said. "His desire to succeed on and off the track is a great inspiration for all of our team."
