LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech mens track and field head coach Corky Oglesby has been appointed to assist the Texas Tech University Red Raider Club in its fund raising efforts within the athletic department, athletic director Gerald Myers announced today.
Oglesby, who served as Texas Techs mens track and field head coach from 1975-1995, will focus on fund raising efforts for the Red Raider Club and athletic facility expansion efforts. He will travel throughout West Texas during the summer encouraging donations to the Horizon Campaign and increasing Red Raider Club membership.
"Corky is very knowledgeable about Texas Tech and is as loyal to the university as anyone you will find," said Myers. "He has a lot of contacts throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico and I am confident that he will do a good job in this position."
A native of Tulsa, Okla. Oglesby spent 26 years on the Texas Tech athletic staff. A 1959 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, he began his career as a basketball assistant at his alma mater before serving as a track coach on the high school and college levels. He came to Texas Tech in 1969 as an assistant basketball coach for then head coach Bob Bass and remained in the position for five seasons under former basketball coach and current athletic director Gerald Myers. He took over the head track and field coaching duties in 1975.
