Raiders Fall In Tournament Semifinals

LSU's Tara Asbill hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 4-3.
The Red Raiders, playing in the Hillenbrand Tournament semifinals, shook off a recent hitting slump as Tech tallied nine hits on 28 at-bats. Tech jumped ahead in the second inning when sophomore Sandy Butler hit an RBI single to score Paula Workman. In the top of the third innning, Tech extended its lead as Paula Workman hit a 2RBI single to left field that brought in Aimee Weathers and Kim Martinez. After three innings, Texas Tech led 3-0.
LSU answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Stephanie Hatings hit an RBI single to score Ashlee Ducote and bring the Tigers within two. The Tigers would add a second run in the bottom of the sixth after an error by junior first base Tamara Harrington.
The Red Raiders (13-15) finished the Hillenbrand Invitational with a record of 1-4. Texas Tech will play its first home game of the season on Wednesday March 10 as they host New Mexico State in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas Tech Intramural Fields.
