Red Raider Softball Team Sweeps Eastern New Mexico

LUBBOCK, Texas -Despite rain, sleet, and lightening, the Texas Tech softball team defeated Eastern New Mexico 3-0 and 4-2 today. Tech improved their season record to 8-2, while the Greyhounds fell to 3-7-1.
In game one, the Red Raiders scored in the first inning when a single by Ellen Middleton scored Sandy Butler. Tech added two more in the next inning as Tamara Harrington came in on a double by Paula Workman. Workman then scored on a single by Butler. After a 15 minute weather delay, the two teams returned to the field, but only played two more innings before calling the game. Freshman Amanda Renfro picked up the win, as she struck out eight of the 16 batters faced.
Game two saw Tech score in the first inning as Butler came in on a double by Middleton. The Greyhounds answered in the third when Suzy Seitzinger scored on an error by Tech third baseman Jennifer Beach. Kim Pashcall followed on a single by Sarah Boatright. The Red Raiders tied the game at 2-2 when Jenny Kohler scored on a Middleton single. The tie remained until the bottom of the sixth when Beth Hurley and Butler scored on an error by Greyhound shortstop Sarah Rempp. Junior Emily Hayes picked up the win for Tech, while Angela Garner was saddled with the loss.
