June 21, 1999 | Indoor Track
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Texas Tech junior Rohan McDonald cruised to a seventh place finish in the 400 meters at the 1998 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. McDonald recorded a time of 46.94 seconds to earn All-America status and tally Tech's only two team points of the meet.
In the women's mile, junior Evette Turner crossed the line in ninth place with a time of 4:48.23. Turner advanced to Saturday's final round, clocking a season best time of 4:45.54 in the preliminaries on Friday. She had previously claimed the Big 12 title in the event and was the only Red Raider female to qualify for the national meet.
Texas Tech had one additional runner competing at nationals in Josephus Howard. He failed to make Saturday's final heat after not finishing the race. Howard had suffered a strained hamstring at the Big 12 Championships and was expected to be ready to compete this weekend.
The Red Raider men's and women's track teams open outdoor competition this weekend at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. The meet will take place Saturday, March 21.
