The individual skills camps are designed to teach and review all of the basic skills, while introducing new features to your game. Individual skills including passing, hitting, setting, blocking, serving and defense will be emphasized. There will be game play each day and a tournament on the last day. Coach Nelson and his staff will personally supervise all on and off court activities. Texas Tech volleyball players will be living in the dorm with the campers. Additional discussions will cover nutrition, weight lifting and how to pursue college volleyball.
SETTERS CAMP
The setters camp is being offered to only the first 80 athletes who apply. It will be a specialty camp designed to focus primarily on setting technique, footwork, decision making and leadership. This camp is to help setters of all ability levels, beginning to elite. Coach Nelson has had the opportunity to work with some of the top setters including national team members, college and high school All Americans. This will be a three-day camp with very intense specific training. Sign up now!
CAMP COACHING STAFF
The Texas Tech Red Raider
volleyball camp will be directed by Texas Tech head volleyball
coach Jeff Nelson. Nelson has led Texas Tech to a 69-31 record
and two NCAA appearances and has been consistently ranked in
the top 25 nationally. He has also helped guide Arizona State
to the NCAA Tournament three times, has been the head coach of
the USA Boys Junior National Team and twice served as an
assistant at the U.S. Olympic Festival. Coach Nelson has
directed numerous camps and clinics throughout the United
States. He has experience at all levels of volleyball,
professional, collegiate, high school and junior club and
speaks at other clinics and camps around the country. Besides
coaching, Nelson has played volleyball for 20 years and in
1985, competed in the Men's NCAA Final Four.
Texas Tech has had a great tradition in volleyball and hopes to expand on that through the 90's and beyond. A number of current Tech players were campers at Tech during their high school careers. Red Raider volleyball has made five NCAA appearances in the past eight years and has also had players participate in summer National Team Programs.
The camp staff will include current and former Tech players along with assistant coaches and guest coaches from other universities. The staff is excited to meet you and help you in your development in the game of volleyball.
