BATON ROUGE, La. - Texas Tech junior All-America candidate Brooke Lowrance is tied for second after the first round of the LSU-Fairwood Invitational, while her 20th-ranked Red Raider team is within striking distance after Friday's action.
Lowrance's even-par 72 is tied for second with Mississippi State's Lina Thoren. The duo is two shots back from first-round leader Amanda Moltke-Leth, who shot a 2-under 70.
Memphis is in first place with a first-day total of 296. UCLA (298), Mississippi State (301), LSU (302), Alabama (303), Arkansas-Little Rock (308) and Texas Tech (309) round out the top seven scores after the first day. Four nationally ranked squads make up the 14-team field that is challenging the par 72, 5,835-yard Fairwood Country Club layout through Sunday. Seventh-ranked LSU, 19th-ranked UCLA, 24th-ranked Alabama and 26th-ranked Missouri are among the teams vying for the title. Memphis, Mississippi State, Arkansas-Little Rock and Florida State are also among the top 50 women's golf teams.
Sophomore Jamie Vannoy (78) is tied for 37th, while freshman Priscillia Hunt is tied for 41st with a 7-over 79. Sophomore Alana Soliz (80) is tied for 46th. Senior Kristin Kight struggled to an 8-over 80 to tie for 58th.
The tournament continues with Saturday's second round and wraps up on Sunday with the final round of the 54-hole event. (more)
