LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field teams will host a home meet this Friday, April 21, at R.P. Fuller Stadium on the Texas Tech campus. Among teams expected to compete are Odessa College, Ranger College and Southwest Texas. The meet will get underway at 11:00 a.m. with the men's and women's 10,000-meter races.
The Tech men enter the meet with one of the nation's top middle distance runners in Gezachw Yossef. Earlier in the season at the Stanford Cardinal Invite, Yossef ran a time of 3:41.97 in the 1,500-meter run. That time set a new Texas Tech school record and provisionally qualified Yossef for the national championship meet. It is also the best 1,500 time in the Big 12 this season.
The men also are buoyed by the efforts of the 4x100-relay team. Twice this season the team has just missed a provisional qualifying time by 0.6 seconds. Their top time this season is 40.62.
Tech's women boast a strong pair of relay teams. The Red Raider 4x100 and 4x400 teams have both set new school records in the respective events this season and the 4x400 team has provisionally qualified for nationals. The women's sprint corps also boasts three of the Big 12's top times in the 100-meter dash.
With three weeks remaining until the Big 12 championships, the Tech team has notched three NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
