Tech's Crill, Vannoy Earn Academic Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field athlete Bobbi Crill and golfer Jamie Vannoy have been named to the 2000 District VI GTE Academic All-America Team according to a release distributed this afternoon from the CoSida Academic All-America committee. Crill, a graduate student majoring in sports administration, was a first team selection and Vannoy, a senior advertising major, was a second team selection.
The GTE Academic All-American teams consist of athletes nominated by the sports information directors from their respective schools. The nominees must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The nominations are then voted on by sports information directors in each district to determine which athletes make the first and second team.
Crill, from San Angelo, Texas, maintains a 4.0 GPA while working towards her graduate degree. She is a pole-vaulter on the Red Raider track and field team and owns school records in the event both indoors and outdoors. She is a three-time selection to the Big 12 Conference Academic first team and was the recipient of the 1999 Big 12 Conference postgraduate scholarship.
Vannoy, from Sandy, Ore., maintains a 3.86 GPA. She had seven top 20, three top 10 and two top five finishes for the Texas Tech women's golf team in the 2000 season. On her career, she has 16 top 20 finishes and seven finishes in the top 10. She holds the school record for a tournament score with her total of 218 at the Utah-Dixie Classic. She is a member of the NGCA All-Scholar team and a two-time selection to the Big 12 Academic first team.
