LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost the services of sophomore utility infielder Ashley Ready indefinitely after she dislocated her left shoulder in the fifth inning of the second contest at New Mexico State this past weekend.
The Austin, Texas, native will have an MRI on March 21, at which time determination on her availability for the rest of the season will be made.
Tech was losing 5-3 to the homestanding Aggies in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and no one out. A soft liner fell over the outstretched arms of Tech shortstop Rebecca Eimen, who picked up the ball and fired to third to get the force out.
But Eimen's throw sailed, causing Ready to lunge for the errant throw. When she did, her left (nonthrowing) shoulder dislocated, leaving the 5-6 catcher/infielder in immense pain. She was taken to the hospital and had the shoulder reset that evening. She has played in 12 games thus far during this 2001 campaign.
The Red Raiders travel to Tampa, Fla., this weekend to participate in the Speedline Invitational from Thursday through Sunday.
