Arlene Newton of Santa Ana, California left the Sunshine state to play third base for the Lady Raiders. While attending school at Santa Ana Valley High School, Newton was name to the first team All-League and named team MVP from 99' to 02'. Newton holds an impressive 98 % career fielding with a career batting average of .480.
Junior Elyssa Sigala transferred from West Valley Community College, looking to spend time behind the plate. While at WVCC, she led her team to a 48-6 record as well as a first place finish in conference. The Salinas, Calif. native was voted first team All-State and first team All-Conference. Sigala threw out eight of nine at second during the 2000 season and also held a .600 batting average in conference. Sigala will prove to be both an offensive and defensive force for the Lady Raiders.
Sophomore Kelly Rhyne comes to Tech after spending one season at New Mexico State University, where she was second on the team in homeruns with six and also led the team in runs scored with 31. This Coppell, Texas native led her team to an overall 88-29 record and a 5A Championship win. Honors include 2001 All-State, State Tournament MVP and NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.
Senior Shayne Gipson will be used in the utility player. Gipson transfers to Tech after three years at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where she was part of a regional championship team who placed third in NJCAA nationals. She also set a career and season record stolen bases with 103-106. Attending Skiatook High School in Skiatook, Okla., Gipson led the team with stolen bases
Leander high school product Erin Crawford joins the Red Raiders after playing both volleyball and softball for Leander. This two-time first team All-District player will look for playing time as both a pitcher and at first base.
Sophomore Summer Scales comes to Tech after playing for Bridge City High School in Bridge City, Texas. She helped lead her team to a 2001 district Championship and two regional Championships. Scales received the Golden Glove award in 2001 and named Offensive Player of the Year in 1999 and 2001.
Staying close to home is freshman Cristi Clift, coming from Wolfforth, Texas. Looking to aide the Lady Raiders in the infield, Clift holds a 90% fielding average. She was named All-City and All-District in both 2000 and 2001 during her time at Frenship High School.
