Women's Tennis Faces Challenging Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will be busy over the next three days as the squad plays host to the Texas Tech Team Tournament. Matches will be played indoors at two locations - Lubbock Country Club and Nautilus.
No. 46 SMU and No. 26 Florida International face off Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Nautilus, while the Red Raiders and No. 23 TCU meet at 1:30 p.m. at LCC. Action continues Saturday with No. 53 New Mexico and TCU meeting at 10 a.m. and Tech and FIU squaring off at 2 p.m. Both matches Saturday will be played at Nautilus.
The event wraps up on Sunday with Tech and New Mexico playing at Nautilus and TCU and FIU meeting at LCC. Both matches will begin at 10 a.m.
Texas Tech is led by sophomore Irina Tereschenko (Moscow, Russia), who finished the fall season with a No. 64 national ranking in singles and No. 11 ranking in the Southwest Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Tereschenko teams up with Beverly Dawson (Odessa, Texas) to form the nation's No. 17-ranked doubles team and top tandem in the Southwest Region. Senior captains Alenka Ovin (Maribor, Slovenia) and Noel Ruiz (Asuncion, Paraguay) also look to lead the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders will travel to the Rocky Mountains next weekend for a trio of matches against Air Force (Feb. 22) and Cincinnati (Feb. 24) in Colorado Springs, and Big 12 foe Colorado (Feb. 23) in Boulder.
