Tech Looks to Build on Home Win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Texas Tech softball team will look to continue its winning ways at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruses, N.M. this weekend. Tech is scheduled to play #17 Florida State, Dayton and tournament host New Mexico State during the three day round robin tournament.
On Tuesday afternoon Tech put an end to a 10-game losing streak in downing the New Mexico State Aggies, 7-4, in the home opener. This weekend Tech is scheduled to play the Aggies two more times, once on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Also on the docket this weekend will be the Dayton Flyers and the Florida State Seminoles. Dayton will play its first game of the season Friday afternoon against Tech at noon and play the Red Raiders a second time Saturday 10 a.m.
The Seminoles enter the tournament ranked 17th in the latest NFCA polls with an overall record of 9-4. Tech will play FSU Friday at 2 p.m. and at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Red Raiders are playing in the Troy Cox Classic for the fifth time since the 1996 season. Tech has an overall record of 12-15 in the tournament after going 2-4 in the 2000 classic. Tech did not participate in the classic last season but was 0-2 against NMSU in Las Cruces a year ago.
