Tech Can't Stop Matadors, 8-3

FULLERTON, Calif. - Texas Tech opened the 2002 Kia Klassic Wednesday afternoon falling to the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 8-3, on the campus of Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Northridge (15-10) opened the scoring in the home half of the first as Sondra Milchiker led off the game with the first of her two hits on the day. The second Matador batter reached on an error and a walk loaded the bases for Sara Summers to single in the first run of the game.
Tech (10-16) answered the Matadors in the top half of the second sending eight players to the plate scoring three. Andrea Joachims hit the first of back-to-back infield singles followed by a Lisa Lawler ground-rule double to left center that scored Joachims. Senior Eva Harshman hit a third Red Raider infield single to score Britney Stolle. And after a walk by Tracy Cartier, Esmerelda Perez drove in Harshman making the score 3-1 on the fourth infield hit of the inning.
CSN would tack on four runs in the bottom of the second hitting a pair of two-run homers. It would another run in the fifth and two in the sixth as Tech dropped its 16th game of the season.
Joachims was 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the way for the Red Raiders.
Tech will return to the diamond tomorrow morning for the second game of the Kia Klassic as it takes on the second ranked Arizona Wildcats at 11 a.m.
