FULLERTON, Calif. - Texas Tech scored three runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning and left the game tying run on first as the Red Raiders fell to #15 DePaul, 5-3, in the final game of the Kia Klassic Saturday afternoon in Fullerton, Calif.
DePaul pitcher Lindsey Chouinard carried a perfect game into the seventh inning as she retired the first 18 batters that she faced. But in the top of the seventh third baseman Katy Kukman threw a Rebecca Eimen ground ball away at first ending the effort. With the no-hitter still intact through six and a third, Jana Baker singled to left plating Michell Vlahos and Kristi Robles.
Tech (10-20) would score three times in the seventh inning as Eimen reached first via error and beat out a throw to second on Vlahos' groundball. The Blue Demons would commit a second error in the inning on a Robles' groundball to short. The error would plate the first Red Raider run of the game as Tech closed the gap, 4-1. With the score 5-3, two out and runners on first and second Eva Harshman struck out, ending the threat.
DePaul scored all five runs with two outs, three in the third and two in the fourth in handing Tech its sixth consecutive loss.
The Red Raiders will open Big 12 play on Wednesday as it plays host to the Baylor Bears in a double header starting at 2 p.m.
