NORMAN, Okla. - The Texas Tech softball team got a solid pitching performance from freshman Amie Stines in the first game of a doubleheader with the ninth ranked Oklahoma Sooners, but dropped its 11th consecutive game, 3-1 Friday evening in the 100th game at the OU Softball Complex in Norman, Okla.
The Red Raiders (10-25, 0-5 Big 12) opened the scoring with one run in the top of the third. In the inning, Tiffany Harrington hit a groundball up the middle that found its way to the wall. With Harrington on second, centerfielder Esmerelda Perez reached on an error by the Sooner first basemen giving Tech the 1-0 lead. The scarlet and black would continue to threaten as Rebecca Eimen's singled was matched by shortstop Kristi Robles. But on Robles hit Eimen rounded second too far and was picked off ending the Tech rally.
Oklahoma (30-8, 3-0) answered in the home-half of the third with three runs on four hits aided by two Tech errors. Jennifer Stump led off the inning with a solo blast to left, Christy Ring followed with a single and after Christina Enea grounded out to third the wheels came off.
Leah Gulla singled to score Ring and Kelli Braitsch hit what seemed to be a harmless single to right. After a pair of Tech throwing errors on Braitsch's hit OU led, 3-1 with a runner on third. But the Sooners' rally would end as Erin Evans harmlessly to left.
Jennifer Stewart would retire the final 12 Red Raiders in winning her 14th game of the season while Amie Stines sat down 10 of the final 11 Sooners in a losing effort.
