LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech softball coach Bobby Reeves announced the hiring of Debby Abbott and Dave Feinberg as assistant coaches Friday afternoon. Abbott and Feinberg will fill the positions vacated at the end of last season when Cheri Shinn and Rich Wieligman left to pursue other interests.
Abbott has spent the last five years coaching softball at Muskogee (Okla.) High School where she led her teams to five regional championships and two Large Division 6A State Championships. Prior to earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northeastern State University in 1988, she played softball at the University of Oklahoma.
"I am ecstatic about the opportunity to coach here at Tech," said Abbott. "The whole athletic department and staff have already made me feel like I am part of the family and community."
Feinberg comes to Tech after serving as the hitting and outfielders coach at the University of Nevada-Reno last for the 2000-2001 season, where the Wolfpack led the WAC in batting average (.316) and home runs (73). As the UNLV assistant coach, Feinberg garnered a 71% success rate. His softball experience includes over 20 years of playing time in the men's league for over 20 years, working numerous camps at the University of Arizona and playing in eight ISC World Championships.
Feinberg has also been a head coach at the high school level garnering a 88% success rate and a 74% success rate at the junior college level.
"Being able to work with Bobby is a tremendous honor," noted Feinberg. "He is very well respected in the softball community and the possibilities of where this program can go is inviting."
