LAS VEGAS, Nev - The Lady Raider softball team fell 4-3 to Cal-State Fullerton in the final day of competition at the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Titans were the second top-ten team the Lady Raiders faced at the tournament.
Kristina Blair (2-3) took the mound for the Lady Raiders striking out her first batter. Two groundouts to shortstop gave the Titans no hits in the first. Keeping the Titans scoreless in the second, Lisa Lawler hit a double to center field pushing Arlene Newton, on base after a walk, around to third, marking the game's first hit. Andrea Joachims hit a long single to center field scoring both Lawler and Newton. Joachims tried for an extra base but was tagged out at second for the last out. Logging two RBI, Joachims led the team into the third, 2-0.
The Titans would land on base with a hit but a double play turned by Shayne Gipson and Joachims kept Fullerton off the boards. With one out against her, Robles logged her second homerun of the tournament over the center field fence.
In the fourth Fullerton would threaten Tech's lead with a long single to center field, Perez fired it into Robles who would be at second to meet Amanda Hockett as she went for a double. Tech put Hockett in a pickle and Joachims tagged her out.
With bases loaded for Fullerton, Jodie Cox lined to right field. She earned a single but an error by outfielder Amanda Douglas caused a three run single. In the fifth Joachims and Lawler both logged hits but no runs were scored.
Erin Crawford came in at the top of the sixth, relieving Blair who pitched five complete innings and giving up one earned run. One Titan run was scored in the sixth, breaking the tie. This was the only run scored and Tech entered the bottom of the sixth, leaving two men on base.
Tech made another offensive change in the seventh with Amie Stines coming in to relieve Crawford after one inning. Stines struck out two batters leaving the Lady Raiders with a 4-3 loss.
Tech (6-11) will make its next tournament stop in Houston, Texas for the Cougar Invitational.
