SALEM, Va. - It was uncharted territory for the Lady Raider softball team as they took on two teams they have never faced before, the University of North Carolina Tarheels and the Georgia State Panthers at the 2003 Hokie Fastpitch Club Classic in Salem, Va. Kristina Blair came into the game at the top of the fifth, relieving Erin Crawford who pitched four complete innings with no earned runs given up. Tarheel Jaclyn Holden hit a line drive down the right field line for a double, scoring a UNC run but defense on Tech's part kept the lead to 2-0.
In the top of the seventh Elyssa Sigala, slotted her first homerun of the season with a ball hit over left center field. She was followed by Arlene Newton who lined a ball down left center but the Tarheels would turn a double play to leave the Lady Raiders with a 2-1 loss.
