LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Andrew Dresser (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview) shot a 2-over par 73 and is tied in 18th place following the first round of play at the Cleveland Golf Championships in Aiken, S.C. The rain-shortened tournament will wrap up on Tuesday with a final 18 holes.
Dresser, who has finished among the top five in each of the last two events, is the bright spot for Texas Tech, which sits in a tie for 13th in the 15-team field. Weather hampered the first round of play and forced the cancellation of the second round at the Palmetto Golf Club.
Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz./Buena) shot a 75 and is tied in 36th place, while Erik Stenman (Tampere, Finland) and Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill) shot 77 and 79, respectively, and are in 58th and 77th places. Brad Jacobson (Bryant, S.D./Hamlin) is tied in 77th place with an 81.
College of Charleston (288) leads the event by three strokes over three teams tied in second place. Texas-Arlington (291), Kansas (291) and tournament host USC-Aiken (291) are tied in second, while Furman (293) and South Carolina (293) are tied in fifth. Maryland (294) and Vanderbilt (294) are tied in seventh, while Virginia Commonwealth (296) is ninth and South Florida (299) tenth. Florida State (300), Tulane (303), Texas Tech (304), Presbyterian College (304) and Georgia State (305) round out the field of 15.
The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
