Tech Drops Two to SWT

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raider softball team took on the Southwest Texas Bobcats (27-9-1) to 13-0 and 4-3 losses today at Rocky Johnson Field. Tech improved in game two out-hitting the Bobcats 9-4 after logging two hits in game one.
Game one displayed a game of hot Bobcat bats, with SWT logging 12 hits. SWT leaped on board in the first with three runs off four hits including a double by Ryan Stukel. Inning three gave the Bobcats a lead that could not be overcome, scoring nine runs off seven hits including a homerun by Hannah Snow. A homerun by Kristen Zaleski in the fourth secured the Bobcat win.
Tech came back in game two with pitcher Amie Stines striking out seven batters. A double by Bobcat Leslie Sharp gave the game its first run in the second inning and the score remained at 1-0 into the fourth.
The fourth saw back to back doubles by Arlene Newton and Kelly Rhyne, finishing 2-of-4. A sacrifice fly by Elyssa Sigala logged Tech's first run of the game with pinch runner Amanda Oakes crossing home plate. Tech logged two more in the fifth with RBIs off a double by Kristi Robles, who was 2-of-4 in game two, and a fielder's choice by Newton giving Tech their first lead of the game, 3-1. The Bobcats regained the lead in the sixth with back to back homeruns by Stukel and Katie Ann Trahan, handing Tech a 4-3 loss.
Tech (14-28) will head to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend to take on Oklahoma State University, Sat. at 2 pm and Sun. at 1 pm.
