LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lady Raider softball squad lit up the boards in the first inning but were overcome by the Cornhuskers as they fell 5-1 to #7 Nebraska today at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. Tech logged six hits against the Cornhuskers, the most this season against a ranked opponent.
The Lady Raider struck in the first inning with a line drive down the middle by Kelly Rhyne to score Esmerelda Perez who landed on base with balls. The Cornhuskers responded with a two run inning off three hits by Nicole Trimboli, Amanda Buchholz and Amber Burgess.
The third saw three singles off the bats of Shayne Gipson, Elyssa Sigala and Lisa Lawler. Tech did not plate any runs leaving three Lady Raiders on base and the score at 2-1. Pitcher Amie Stines gave up no hits from the second until the fourth while Tech's bats made contact from the third to the fifth.
In the sixth, pinch hitter Trisha Tannahill hit a single to left field to give Nebraska their third run of the game and leave the bases loaded. Leadoff hitter Kim Ogee sacrificed to right field, giving Nebraska a 4-1 advantage. Jessica Yoachim scored the final run of the game, crossing home on a passed ball.
The series between Nebraska (30-9, 7-6) and Tech (16-35, 3-10) will conclude tomorrow at 12 pm.
