LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech filled two voids in the Athletic Ticket Office this week with the hiring of Rice University ticket director David Welsh and UC-Santa Barbara ticket director Liz Kelley.
Welsh will assume the role of Assistant AD for Ticket Operations, replacing Russell Warren, who joined the Lady Raider basketball staff as director of marketing. Kelley moves into the assistant ticket manager position, which opened when Jarod Huddleston was named director of ticket operations.
Welsh began his association with Rice in 1991, when he was hired as assistant athletic ticket manager. He was promoted to ticket manager in 1997 and held the position for the last six years. Among his duties, Welsh coordinated ticket sales for athletic department events and handled season ticket orders and seat assignments for all sports. He also was the financial budget manager for the NCAA baseball regional and super-regional at Rice this year and organized the Rice baseball team's travel for NCAA tournaments.
Prior to his employment at Rice, Welsh spent a year and half as the assistant sports information director at the University of Tampa and was a sports information intern at the University of Miami (Fla.) during the latter half of 1989. A native of Topeka, Kan., Welsh earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas in 1988 and earned his master's degree in sports administration/sports management from St. Thomas University in Miami.
Kelley recently served as the director of ticket operations at UC-Santa Barbara since January 2000. During her three years as director, Kelley was responsible for all aspects of event ticketing for the athletic department. She prepared and distributed season tickets for men and women's basketball and directed the school's ticketing plan for the Big West basketball tournaments.
Prior to her position as director of ticket operations, Kelley was a travel manager and financial assistant within the UCSB athletic department for one year. The San Fernando, Calif., native graduated from UCSB in 1998 with a degree in communications and sport management.
