Star-Studded Event Highlights Rawls Course Grand Opening

LUBBOCK, Texas - The stars will shine bright over the newest golf course in West Texas as Celtic greats Bill Russell and Kevin McHale will headline a list of more than 35 celebrities at the grand opening of The Rawls Course on the Texas Tech University campus.
In addition to Russell and McHale, other celebrity participants include former Detroit Tigers manager Sparky Anderson, Iowa head basketball coach Steve Alford, ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas, former Indiana basketball player Quinn Buckner, country musician Mac Davis, former Texas Tech football coach Spike Dykes and former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Jim Leyland.
"This event will encompass the largest selection of worldwide celebrities that have been to Lubbock at one time in years," Jack North, managing director of The Rawls Course said. "We will have 17 hall of fame athletes from various sports along with a continuing growing list of other celebrities.
"In addition to the event on Friday, the 1958 Texas Tech golf team will play an exhibition on Saturday," North added.
Tickets for the Sept. 12 event are $10 for adults and $5 for children accompanied by an adult. The course will be open to the public on Sun., Sept. 14. Selected senior touring professionals to be named at a later date will conduct a clinic on Sat., Sept. 13.
Tickets for a reception to be held at the Texas Tech Museum Sept. 12 can be purchased for $750 per person. The reception includes a meal and entertainment by Mac Davis and Charlie Pride. Individuals can play in the celebrity event and attend the reception that evening for $1,000.
