Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech softball coach Bobby Reeves announced the hiring of Kellyn Tate as assistant coach Friday afternoon.
Tate is no stranger to the athletic department as she served two years as graduate assistant for Academic Services. Prior to coming to Tech, Tate was a two-year member of the WPSL Akron Racers, a Women's Professional Summer Softball League team. She was a two-time All-Star recipient as well as the 1999 League Batting Champion.
Tate attended the University of Michigan where she was a member of the 1995, 1996 and 1998 Big Ten Championship team. Tate helped lead her team to the NCAA College World Series all four years of competition. She was also a three-time All Great Lakes Region Selection and All Big Ten Conference Selection.
Reeves is excited about the level of experience and energy that Tate will bring to the program.
"I am very excited to have Kellyn as part of the program. She is young and full of energy and brings a lot of experience to the team. She played collegiate ball at Michigan and played at the highest level playing professional softball. She will do a great job."
Tate graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Sports Management and Communications. Tate received her Masters of Higher Education with a focus in Student Affairs from Tech in 2003. Tate will serve as the outfielder and hitting coach.
