Ashley Parker is a freshman outfielder from Lindale, Texas. After the team's first tournament in San Marcos, Texas, she took some time to sit down and share some thoughts about her first experiences as a Texas Tech softball player.
Playing softball for Texas Tech, just hearing those words is unbelievable. The reason I came hear to play softball is not only because it is Division I, and not to mention it is in the Big XII, its because of the girls and the our coach. I love all the girls and we all get along great. My first impression on Coach Reeves was that he was, and now that I know him, is a good family and Christian man. He is down to earth and he has taught me and continues to teach me so much about the game. Another reason I came to Tech was because I have a chance to play with my twin sister, Heather. We would not even look at the school if they did not want both of us because we wanted to be able to play with each other like we have been doing our whole lives. I would not know what to do with out her by my side. I love being able to look out at the field and see her there. We give each other so much more confidence in all that we do.
Now that I am here attending Texas Tech I love it. I love the game of softball. It has always been fun for me. When we left for our first tournament I was so excited and nervous. When I stepped on the field for that first time I thought wow my dream has come true. I am actually playing and living my dream. I was playing Big XII ball. Wow! I loved every minute of it. That first game we were all tense and nervous so we did not play as well as we could have. But later on that day, everything just started to fall into place. When I got my first hit I was so pumped. Since I am a slap hitter I laid down a bunt. It was the best feeling in the world. In this first tournament I played catcher and outfield. Although we did not win our game, we started to come together as a team and we were and are learning each other's ability. I believe that we will do as well as we want. We can go as far as we desire. We will just have to work for it every minute we can.
