LUBBOCK, Texas - After playing its first ten games away from Lubbock, the Texas Tech softball team will return to town to host UTEP in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Rocky Johnson Field at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The Lady Raiders (1-9) return to West Texas after participating in the Sun Devil Softball Tournament in Tempe, Ariz., over the weekend. The tournament was highlighted by a 9-8 win over Dayton, which was capped off by a two-run walk-off home run by junior Natalie Enderlin to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and give the team its first win of the year.
In addition to Enderlin, junior Kelly Rhyne and senior Elyssa Sigala both hit over .300 for the tournament, to help set the pace for Tech offensively. Rhyne finished the tournament hot at the plate, going 3 for 3 with an RBI in the tournament finale against Nevada.
Sophomore pitcher Julie Hauck finished the tournament with a 0.96 ERA in two appearances, which included her first complete game of the season. Sophomore Erin Crawford was also impressive, tying a career high with seven strikeouts against No. 5 Washington.
UTEP comes to town with a record of 2-0 after weekend victories over Sul Ross University. The Miner softball program is in its first year of existence and is led by co-head coaches James and Kathleen Rodriguez.
