Lady Raider Softball Finishes Play The Mardi Gras Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. - Texas Tech Softball rounded out play at the Mardi Gras Classic this afternoon in Lafayette, La., falling to Southeastern Louisiana 3-2.
Tech starter Erin Crawford (1-5) got out of a jam in first inning when the Southeastern Louisiana was able to load the bases with a pair of singles and a walk. Crawford recovered to induce a ground out by Kelli Gautreau to end the inning.
The Lady Lions again loaded the bases in the top of the third inning with lead off walk followed by a single to put runners at first and second with no outs. After retiring the next two batters Crawford walked right fielder Amy Ford to load the bases, but Gautreau flew out to center field to end the inning and keep the score at 0-0.
Southeastern Louisiana would break through in the top of the fourth, scouring two runs. The Lady Lions collected four hits in the inning to post a 2-0 lead. Keely Tucker would replace Crawford at beginning of the fifth inning
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Raiders were able to load the bases on walks by Kelly Rhyne, Elyssa Sigala and Amanda Oakes, but were unable to score as Natalie Kula fouled out to left field to end the inning.
The Lady Lions would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Michelle Lemons lead off with a single and was followed by Lisa Chapman who reached on a fielder's choices. Chapmen would score later in the inning on a sacrafice fly by Raeni Landry
The Lady Raiders would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ashley Parker lead off with a single to center field and was forced out on a fielder's choice. After a single by Natalie Enderlin, Stolle was forced out at third on a fielder's choice by Kelly Rhyne for the second out in the inning. Elyssa Sigala doubled to right center to drive in Enderlin and Rhyne and cut the lead to 3-2, but they could not get any closer, going down in the seventh without scoring a run to end the game.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to participate in the Tulsa Softball Tournament. During the tournament, they will take on UAB at 9 a.m. and Saint Louis at 1 p.m. on Friday, Drake at 11 a.m. and Tulsa at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and wrap up play with Centenary at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
