Red Raider Golf In Eighth After Day One

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders came out swinging at the ASU Thunderbird Classic in Tempe, Ariz., as freshman Oscar Floren was just one of two Tech golfers to finish the day under par. The No.36-ranked men's golf team shot a 278-288-566 first and second round score to finish the day in eighth, just seven shots back from the top five.
Floren came out hot off the shotgun-start on Friday shooting a 64, eight-under-par and his lowest round of his career, to lead the Red Raiders. His second-round score of even par left him in a tie for sixth, 136. Junior Chris Pace also came out steaming in Tempe carding a day-one score of 70-70-140, to end the first day of competition tied for 19th. Pace's 140, two-under-par, day-one score ties his lowest 36-hole score of his career.
Shooting one-over-par, 74-71-145, sophomore Andrew Dresser finished the day tied for 45th. Rounding out the last of Tech's competitors is senior Brad Jacobson and junior William Haddrell who finished the day tied for 58th and 66th, respectively. Haddrell posted a day-one score of 72-76-148, four-over-par, for the Red Raiders. Jacobson (72-75-147), shooting three-over-par, is competing in his second tournament of the year since competing at The Nelson in October.
The ASU Thunderbird/Ping Invitational will conclude today with a 7 a.m. shotgun start at the ASU Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,037). The 15-team field will conclude today's competition by wrapping up the last 18 holes of the 54-hole event.
