LUBBOCK, Texas - If the rainy weather and cold temperatures the South Plains experienced over the last two weekends has created a sense of cabin fever, Texas Tech athletics has the cure. Beginning Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, six Red Raider sport programs will be in action on the Texas Tech campus.
Red Raider baseball will serve as the bookends for the weekend as action begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Kansas State at Dan Law Field. The team also will face the Wildcats on Saturday at 2 p.m. and wrap up the weekend against KSU on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sandwiched in between are events featuring the Texas Tech soccer, softball, women's tennis and football programs.
The Red Raider soccer program, in the midst of its spring training schedule, faces RIO FC of Albuquerque in an exhibition match at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the pitch at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
Football activities highlight the day Saturday and gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting at the new Football Training Facility. Red Raider football fans will get a preview of the 2004 team at the annual Red-Black Spring Game at 11 a.m., which follows the 10 a.m. alumni flag football game. Both games will be played on the turf at Jones SBC Stadium and admission is free. An autograph session will follow the Red-Black Game on the turf.
The Lady Raider softball team hosts a pair of games against Big 12 rival Texas A&M at Rocky Johnson Field. The first game is slated for 6 p.m. Saturday with the second game set for a 1 p.m. start Sunday. The Lady Raider volleyball team will host its annual Spring Fling at the corner of 19th St. and University Ave. Check-in for the event is 7 a.m. with play getting underway at 9 a.m. The women's tennis team will host Oklahoma in a conference tilt at 10 a.m. Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Complex.
