LUBBOCK, Texas - The 45th-ranked Lady Raider golf team sits in a tie for sixth with No. 8 Oklahoma State, after shooting 18-over par, 306. The Lady Longhorns (292) lead all teams after day one, followed closely by Big 12 Championship host Texas A&M (294).
Sophomore Hazel Tan, who carded a first-round score of 75, three-over-par, tied for 13th, leads the Lady Raiders after day one of the championships. Megan Hull, tied for 21st, shot a first-round score of 76, four-over-par, to be Tech's second best golfer. Tech's Jackie Ey (78), senior, shot a five-over-par to finish tied for 28th. Juniors Kim Kolb (78) and Sheila Mendez (78) sit in a tie for 32nd, shooting six-over-par to round out the last of Tech's golfers.
Texas's first-round score of 292 marks the league's lowest score in a round since its inception in 1996. Texas A&M's first round 294 ranks as the leagues third-lowest score in any round.
Perry Swenson (Texas) and Annie Thurman (Oklahoma State) lead the individual field tied for first, shooting a first-round score of 69, three-under-par. The individual leaders' score of 69 ties the lowest first-round score in a Big 12 Championship and ties for the third lowest score in any round.
The second round of the Big 12 Championships at Pebble Creek Country Club (6,242 yards, par 72) will get underway with an 8:00 a.m. start Saturday. The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event are scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. start Sunday.
