LUBBOCK, Texas - The No.46-ranked women's golf team heads up to Norman, Okla., to compete in the annual Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The 15-team field will be searching to de-crown the three time defending champions No.16 Oklahoma Sooners and end their dominance at their home course. The Lady Raiders will begin their search for their first tournament win of the season on Monday, April 12.
Entering the competition junior Sheila Mendez paces the team with an individual stroke-average of 76.91, followed by senior Jackie Ey at 77.48. With a 77.67, junior Kim Kolb holds Tech's third best stroke average while junior Megan Hull sits in fourth with a 78.08 stroke-average. Rounding out the top five golfers for Tech is sophomore Hazel Tan at 79.33.
The last two-times out the Lady Raiders placed in the top five of their competitions with a pair of third place finishes at the St.Croix Invitational and the Baylor/Tapatio Spring Shootout.
Tech will look to continue the success that it has had at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, coming off a second-place finish a year ago. This year the team will face three teams ranked in the top 50. The tough competition of No.16 Oklahoma, No.39 Baylor and No.44 Kansas State will not only be a challenge for this weekends' classic, but will also be a good warm-up for the Big 12 Championship April 23.
The Lady Raiders will begin the two-day event at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course (6,013, par-72) with a shotgun start Monday morning. The event setup will consist of 36 holes on Monday and will conclude with 18 holes to be played on Tuesday.
