LUBBOCK, Texas - adidas American and Texas Tech University announced today that they have expanded and extended their multi-year partnership, effective July 1, 2005.
The previous partnership dealt exclusively with Tech men's basketball program. Although the men's basketball program will continue to be a major focus, the partnership now includes baseball, cross country, golf, tennis, track and field, softball, soccer and volleyball. Within these athletic programs, the Red Raiders will exclusively wear adidas footwear, apparel and accessories during the length of the partnership. The Red Raider football program will have the option to make the conversion to adidas once its current contract is up with Nike in 2006.
"We are extremely pleased to have our relationship with Texas Tech University expand into a multi-sport partnership," stated Tom Mercer, Director of Team Sports for adidas America. "This expansion with Texas Tech University is another example of our commitment to the building of our team and license business within the great state of Texas."
Texas Tech is part of a collegiate family consisting of historic programs such as Notre Dame, Tennessee, Nebraska, Louisville, Wisconsin and UCLA, as well as other recent additions including Indiana, Pittsburgh and North Carolina State among others.
Gerald Myers, Texas Tech Director of Athletics, said, "adidas is a perfect partner for Texas Tech, and we are proud to join the other collegiate programs who wear the Three-Stripes. Along with the obvious benefit of Texas Tech's student-athletes and teams having a consistent look, the Red Raiders will be outfitted with the innovative, superior products that define adidas."
