LUBBOCK, Texas - With the fall recruiting season winding down and the team beginning final preparations for the beginning of the 2006 season in February, Texas Tech head softball coach Teresa Wilson announced on Tuesday that she has accepted the commitments of two student-athletes to join the Red Raider program in the fall of 2006.
"I look forward to the opportunity to work with both Amanda and Ashly as they take their game to the next level," said Wilson. "They should be a lot of fun for Red Raider fans to get to know over the coming years."
Amanda Myers will join the Red Raiders after a standout career as an infielder at Poly High School in Riverside, Calif. Among the numerous accolades collected by Myers during her prep career, she has selected as a first team All-League shortstop for three consecutive seasons.
"Amanda Myers is a very talented and versatile athlete, as well as a dedicated student of the game," said Wilson. "She has excellent presence and a level of experience gained from playing for programs rich in tradition...winning a National Championship with the Corona Angels, and from competing most recently with the Gordon's Panthers, a team that has produced such Olympians as Lisa Fernandez, Stacey Nuveman and Jessica Mendoza."
Joining this season's recruiting class is Cypress, Texas, native Ashly Jacobs, who will come to Texas Tech after rounding out her prep career at Cypress Creek High School.
"Ashly performed exceptionally as she led her Sudden Impact Gold Team to a top 10 finish at the 2005 ASA Gold National Tournament," said Wilson. "At 6'2", she has incredible levers and the potential to develop into a pitcher who possesses both power and movement. She has very good presence in the circle and a desire to be one of the best pitchers in the game."
