Men's Golf Drives into Spring Season

LUBBBOCK, Texas - The No.23 Texas Tech men's golf team will open up the spring season of play with a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Wed., Feb. 23-25. The Red Raiders open up the spring season featuring five tournaments en route to the Big Championships in April.
Tech closed the fall semester with a strong showing at the Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by top-ranked Georgia Tech followed by six other teams ranked in the top 10. The Red Raiders finished 12th in the 18-team field.
On the season sophomore Oscar Floren leads the squad with a 72.33 stroke-average, followed by junior Andrew Dresser shooting a 74.06.
The Red Raiders finished the fall season with three top-five finishes as a team and six individual top-10 finishes between Tech's top-five competitors.
The Red Raiders will be making their first appearance at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate held at the Leilehua Golf Course (Par 72, 6,916 yards) in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Leading the Red Raiders into next week's competition are Floren, Dresser, Shaun Melville, Nicolas Allain and Tyler Symons.
Tech's Melville tabs the Raiders third-best stroke average shooting 74.33, followed by Allain (76.00) and Symons (79.67).
The Red and Black golfers will face a tough 21-team field featuring some of the nation's best in No.6 New Mexico, No.7 Auburn and No.14 UNLV. The rest of the field consists of No.17 Texas Tech, No.27 Arizona, BYU, Colorado State, Denver, tournament host Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo, Long Beach State, Nevada, Pacific, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, SMU, Texas A&M, UC Santa Barbara, Utah and UTEP.
The 54-hole event will begin at 8 a.m. on Feb.23, with two days of competition to follow with 18 holes to be played out each day. The tournament will end Feb.25 with all team and individual ties to be broken by a sudden death playoff.
