Women's Golf Swings Into Spring

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team heads to Parrish, Fla., Feb. 21-22 to compete in the Central District Classic. The Lady Raiders begin the spring season which features five tournaments en route to the team's possible third appearance in as many years in the NCAA Central Regional.
The Raiders are coming off a strong fall season where they had three top-10 finishes, two of which saw the Red and Black in the top five on the team leaderboard.
Tech's best finish of the season came at the NMSU Give Five Intercollegiate where it finished second overall as a team, while senior Kim Kolb finished first at the event tabbing her first career title as an individual.
The Lady Raiders return to the annual Central District Classic, hosted by Michigan State, after finishing ninth out of 15 teams in last year's competition.
Leading the Red and Black into this weekend is senior Kim Kolb and freshman Valerie Tan who post the Raiders' lowest stroke-averages of a 75.50. Closely following the leaders are senior Megan Hull (76.60), sophomore Marla Troester (77.08) and senior Sheila Mendez (78.14) who round out Tech's competitors.
Tech will face some familiar faces at this week's tournament while also matching up against some of the nation's top women's programs. Filling the 15-team field are Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
The Lady Raiders will begin competition with 36 holes to be played out on Monday at the River Wilderness Country Club, followed by the remaining 18 holes to be finished off on Tuesday. The tournament will have shotgun starts of 8 a.m. both days of competition.
