Lady Raider Golf Heads to Austin

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team heads to Austin, Texas, March 11-13, to compete in the Betsy Rawls Invitational. The Raiders are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Central District Classic in Parrish, Fla., from a week ago.
Tech has only competed at the Betsy Rawls Invitational once in its history, with the last appearance coming in 2001 when the Lady Raiders finished 13th.
Leading the Red and Black into this weekend are seniors Kim Kolb and Megan Hull with the team's lowest stroke averages of a 75.65 and 75.82, respectively. Following the seniors are freshman Valerie Tan who posts a 75.85, senior Sheila Mendez (78.35) and junior Hazel Tan (77.40) who round out Tech's competitors.
Tech will face some familiar faces at this week's tournament while also matching up against some of the nation's top women's programs. Filling the 17-team field are Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Tech and Tulsa.
The Lady Raiders will begin competition with 18 holes to be played out on Friday at the University of Texas Golf Club (Par 72, 6,323 yards), followed by the remaining 36 holes to be spanned-out over two more days of competition. The 54-hole event will end on Sun., March 13.
