Red Raider Softball Heads to Wichita State

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider softball team is heading to Kansas to battle the University of Missouri- Kansas City, Wichita St., Valparaiso and No. 19 Nebraska at the Wichita St. Tournament this weekend, March 11-13.
Recap of 2005 Mutual of Omaha Tournament
This past weekend, Tech played its first home games of the season as they hosted the 2005 Mutual of Omaha Tournament at Rocky Johnson Field. The Red Raiders went 2-2 over the weekend. Tech was led by sophomore Ashley Parker who went 9 for 13 at the plate with two RBI. Also swinging at the plate was senior Natalie Enderlin who went 6 for 12 on the weekend with one homerun and four RBI. The Red Raiders were lead in the circle by junior Erin Crawford who made three appearances over the weekend pitching for 16.2 innings. Crawford struck out 11 batters and walked one. Senior Keely Tucker also performed well for the Red Raider pitching staff as she saw three innings of relief pitching.
Scouting the Red Raiders
A, Parker also leads the Red Raiders this season at the plate as she has a batting average of .392 in 16 games and 51 at bats. Following close behind at the plate is freshman Jennifer Corkin who has a batting average of .326 on the season and leads the team with 15 RBI. The Red Raiders have a team batting average of .237 over 16 games.
Crawford is leading the Red Raider pitching staff as she is 4-4 on the season with an ERA of 3.35. In 45.2 innings of work, Crawford has struck out 40 batters and walked only nine. Crawford has pitched three complete games for the Red Raiders. Also in the circle is freshman Sarah Losleben who has an ERA of 3.66 in 39.1 innings of work. Losleben has struck out 27 batters and walked four. Relief pitching for Tech is senior Keely Tucker and junior Julie Hauck. Tucker has had 7.2 innings of relief, striking out six batters and walking two. In 14.1 innings, Hauck has struck out seven batters and walked 11. The pitching staff has an ERA of 3.95 on the season.
Scouting the opponents
Valparaiso is 0-4 on the season and is lead by sophomore Taylor Callahan who is 3 for 12 at the plate with three RBI and posting a batting average of .250. Also at the plate is freshman Emily Tkaczyk who is 2 for 9 at the plate and is hitting .222. Leading in the circle is freshman Andrea Zappia who has made two appearances, pitching 6.1 innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Another pitcher for the Valpos is freshman Chris Halstead who has pitched a complete game and 12.2 innings. She has tallied nine strikeouts and three walks.
University of Missouri at Kansas City is 3-9 on the season and is lead by junior Casie Wolf. Wolf is 10 for 27 at the plate with three RBI. Wolf has a batting average of .273 on the season. Senior Jamie McGrath also leads the Kangaroos at the plate going 8 for 32 at the plate to post a .250 batting average. The pitching staff is lead by freshman Jessica Heimann who has a win-loss record of 3-4 after pitching 32 innings. She has 21 strikeouts and 16 walks. Another leader in the circle is senior Veronica Weaver who has made six appearances pitching for 25.1 innings and posted 14 strikeouts and 15 walks.
Wichita St. is 9-6 on the season and is lead by sophomore Stephanie De La Riva who is 17 of 42 on the season with 11 RBI and a batting average of .395. Also leading at the plate is junior Julie Darling who has gone 12 for 31 with six RBI and batting .387. In the circle for the Shockers is sophomore Margo Prius who is 4-3 on the season after pitching 48 innings. Pruis has 56 strikeouts and 13 walks. Also pitching is senior Lindsay Craig who is also 4-3 on the season with 48.1 innings of work. Craig has posted 37 strikeouts and 20 walks.
No. 19 Nebraska is 12-4 on the season and is lead by senior Anne Steffan who is 29 for 56 on the season with three RBI. Steffan is batting .518 in 16 games. Also leading the Huskers is senior Sheena Lawrick who is 22 for 47 on the season with 26 RBI. Lawrick has five homeruns on the season and a batting average of .468. In the circle for the Huskers is freshman Jordan Keen. Keen is 6-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.45. Keen has posted 37 strikeouts and 15 walks in 48.1 innings of work. Also pitching is sophomore Ashley DeBuhr who is 5-3 on the season with an ERA of 1.90. DeBuhr has posted 38 strikeouts and 12 walks in 48 innings of work.
